Glype is a proxy script that had its first release beta in may 2007.

Glype may of been created to replace the unsupported PHProxy script although its not certain of the motive. The owner never charged any money for use of the script alhough its clear that many others using the script profited from its use by running proxy sites. Glype is written in the PHP language and also uses the cURL client libarary. cURL is what Glype uses to do DNS lookups and connect to websites to download requested web pages and files and forwards them back to the user.

Glype soon became the most popular proxy script available, almost every proxy site runs the Glype proxy script. Glype is not however released under a GPL. It requires the backlink to be left on the script unless you purchase a licence. Glype is the most popular proxy script becuase of more advanced options, such as file size limits, great javascript parsing, easy banning options, and is still be actively developed. But as of around April 2009 the owner of Glype sold the site on Sitepoint to a new owner for undisclosed amount of money.
