Wildlife Photography Hides in Argentina

Argentina offers two of South America's most compelling wildlife photography destinations. The Iberá wetlands of Corrientes province — one of the continent's largest wetland systems — are undergoing one of the world's most ambitious rewilding programmes: Jaguar, Giant Anteater, Pampas Deer, Tapir and Red-and-green Macaw have all been reintroduced by Rewilding Argentina, creating a rapidly recovering ecosystem with wildlife density to rival the Pantanal. Peninsula Valdés on the Patagonian coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Southern Right Whales calve in sheltered bays from June to December, Orcas intentionally strand on beaches to prey on Sea Lion pups in autumn, and Magellanic Penguins breed at Punta Tombo in the largest colony in the world. Tierra del Fuego's sub-Antarctic landscapes add Gentoo Penguin, South American Fur Seal and the dramatic scenery of the Beagle Channel.

Iberá National Park Safari — Hotel Puerto Valle

Guided Tour

Corrientes – Iberá National Park / Cambyretá Portal

Hotel Puerto Valle, located on the shores of Iberá lagoon in Corrientes province, offers guided conservation safaris into Iberá National Park departing from the Cambyretá portal — the northern gateway to the park. Excursions run 4-5 hours by 4x4 vehicle and on foot with specialist naturalist guides. Iberá National Park hosts the results of Rewilding Argentina's landmark conservation programme: Jaguar was reintroduced to Iberá in 2021 after a 70-year absence, with a growing population now present in the park. Giant Anteater, Pampas Deer, and Red-and-green Macaw have all been reintroduced and are regularly encountered on safaris. The park's wetland ecosystem — one of the largest in South America — supports 350+ bird species and 60 mammal species. Broad-snouted Caiman is abundant in the lagoon system. Hotel Puerto Valle provides direct access to Iberá without the need for independent vehicle hire, making it the most logistically straightforward base for Iberá wildlife photography.

Ocean Giants — Peninsula Valdés Wildlife Photography

Guided Tour

Chubut – Peninsula Valdés UNESCO World Heritage Site

Argentina Photo Workshops' 4-day Ocean Giants tour at Peninsula Valdés — a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Patagonian coast of Chubut province — targets the largest concentration of marine wildlife on the Argentine coast. Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) uses the sheltered bays of Peninsula Valdés as a primary calving and nursing ground from June to December, with mother-calf pairs in Golfo Nuevo and Golfo San José producing reliable close-range photography from authorised whale-watch vessels. Orca (Orcinus orca) visits the peninsula's Punta Norte beach from February to April for the intentional stranding behaviour used to prey on South American Sea Lion pups — one of the most dramatic predator-prey interactions in the natural world and one of the most filmed wildlife events in Patagonia. Magellanic Penguin breeds at Punta Tombo (the largest Magellanic Penguin colony in the world, 500,000+ breeding pairs) within day-trip distance of the peninsula. Southern Elephant Seal hauls out at Caleta Valdés year-round.
