Wildlife Photography Hides in Fiji
Fiji is one of the Pacific's most rewarding wildlife photography destinations — an archipelago of 333 islands where the extraordinary Orange Dove of Taveuni (the male brilliantly orange with a green head, the female cryptically green) ranks among the Indo-Pacific's most spectacular endemic birds, and where Beqa Lagoon's Bull Shark diving is one of the world's most exhilarating underwater photography experiences. Taveuni — Fiji's "Garden Island" — is the only location on Earth for the Silktail, a small, brilliantly iridescent bird of the old-growth forest; Bouma National Heritage Park covers 80% of the island's forested interior and provides the most reliable access to both Silktail and Orange Dove on guided morning walks with local naturalists. Colo-i-Suva Forest Park near Suva on Viti Levu provides accessible photography of Collared Lory, Kadavu Fantail, and Pacific Swallow from forest trails and bridges. Kadavu Island holds its own suite of endemics including the Kadavu Musk Parrot and Kadavu Honeyeater accessible by local boat tour.
