Bugeat – Corrèze – Limousin

Unique nocturnal hide on a 4.5ha private wildlife refuge bordering a river in the Corrèze. Pond stocked with fish to attract otters year-round. One position at water level in a resin pit (floating hide feel). LED lighting system for night photography. Up to 4 photographers. Heater available in winter. Fixed hide on the edge of a 40-hectare pond in the Baie de Somme Regional Natural Park targeting kingfisher and waterbirds. Private land access only for clients. €70/day for 1-2 people. Year-round.

Fixed hide on an 8-hectare lake inside the Grand-Laviers ornithological reserve near the Baie de Somme. High and low apertures for all lens sizes including 500mm f/4. Camargue – Bouches-du-Rhône

Fixed hide inaugurated 2022 in the Réserve du Petit Rhône between Aigues-Mortes and Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Privatisable for €50/day. Two apertures (20×30cm) for large lenses. Table, chairs, mattress for lying at ground level. Lockable for security. Bookable year-round by phone even when reserve is closed to public.

Normandie

10 fixed hides on a private estate in Normandy. Highlights include an underground kingfisher hide, drink station for forest birds, two little owl hides and a cuckoo perch. Max 3 photographers on site at any time. €140 for 24h including accommodation. €110 per additional 24h. All images on the site taken by owners with modest focal lengths — accessible to non-specialist equipment.

Marais Poitevin – Vendée

5 fixed hides in wet meadows of the Marais Poitevin. Managed by Hugues des Touches — 30-year conservator of the Saint-Denis-du-Payré National Nature Reserve. Raptor hide at a charnier, kestrel hide at barn level (March–July), barn owl hide at nest (June–August), waterbird hide at pond, white stork hide at nest (spring). Overnight accommodation at the farm.

Baie de Somme – Picardie

Private hide sessions in the Baie de Somme with a professional guide photographer who stays in the hide all day to coach. Maximum 3 photographers. Crane migration viewing October to March. Optional grey seal photography on the tidal flats. Overnight stays possible. Shared dinner option available.

Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park – Lot (Concots, near Cahors)

Self-catering gîte with on-site wildlife hides across a 12-hectare property in the Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park. Hides include a reflection pool hide and a woodland-edge hide, all within a 5-minute walk of the accommodation. Run by resident professional wildlife photographer Simon Phillpotts (15+ years). Guided wildlife hide sessions in the Morvan Natural Park with nature guide Thibault Fourrier. Morning kingfisher or bee-eater, afternoon dipper, evening black woodpecker or badger. La Dombes – Ain

3 to 7-day floating hide photography workshop on private Dombes ponds. Floating hide and waders provided (wader hire €10/day). 1-hour free initiation session for beginners. Exclusive access to private étangs with permission. April to June only.

Baie de Somme – Picardie

2-day wildlife photography workshop in the Baie de Somme PNR. Led by Jean-Michel Lecat, professional wildlife photographer and nature guide. Combines hide sessions with field excursions. Accommodation suggestions provided.

La Dombes – Ain

3 to 7-day floating hide photography workshop on 15 private ponds in the Dombes — the most productive waterbird area in France. Water-level photography gives unique low-angle shots impossible from the bank. April to June only (breeding season). Floating hide and waders provided. All levels welcome.

Bugey – Ain – Jura

Guided wildlife field sessions and hide photography with Joël Brunet, professional wildlife photographer and naturalist for 25+ years. Specialises in European wildcat, red fox and stoat in the Bugey massif. Excellent knowledge of local terrain.

Highly personal 1-person guided wildlife photography field sessions in the forests of the Haute-Corrèze between the Millevaches plateau and the Auvergne volcanoes. Parc National des Pyrénées

1-day guided wildlife photography field session at the gateway to the Pyrénées National Park. Technique of field stalking (approche) and hide sessions. Max 3 people. Morning to evening session including wildlife tracking. Isard, bearded vulture and golden eagle are the headline species.

Vosges

5-day residential wildlife and macro photography workshop on a 170-hectare private estate in Périgord Pourpre, near Monbazillac and Bergerac. Full board included (three stone cottages, swimming pool, WiFi). €1,410/person; maximum 4–6 participants. Fixed two-person hides strategically placed across the estate combined with mobile approach/tracking sessions. Ariège – Pyrénées Ariégeoises (Serres-sur-Arget, Orlu, Cauterets)

Multi-day wildlife photography stages in the Ariège Pyrenees led by a mountain guide-naturalist based at Villa Marquises in Serres-sur-Arget near Foix. Partner of the Pyrénées Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park and the Orlu National Wildlife Reserve (home to ~800 isards and one of France's best bear observation zones). 1 or multi-day guided photography sessions in the garrigue and Mediterranean plain near Perpignan. Targeting bee-eater, roller and hoopoe from hides and at nest sites. €190/person. Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Gascogne – Gironde/Landes (Lormont-based pickup)

Full-day (7:15am–6pm) guided wildlife and macro photography stage in the Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Gascogne. One-to-one advanced instruction; prior photography knowledge required. Pickup near Bordeaux ring road (Lormont); Marc provides transport to remote woodland locations. €195/person including lunch. Vallée d'Aure – Hautes-Pyrénées (Arreau area)

One-to-one morning photography stage at a custom-built drinkstation hide in Cavignac, Gironde (20 minutes north of Bordeaux). Instructor-led private session; one participant per session for fully personalized coaching. 2-day guided photography session at the Rocher du Caire near Rémuzat — the most important griffon vulture colony in the Alps. All 4 European vultures observable. Gorges de la Jonte – Lozère

Full day guided vulture photography session in the Jonte gorges — one of only three sites in France where all 4 European vulture species can be observed.
