Remerschen – Moselle Valley – south-east Luxembourg (tripoint of Luxembourg Germany France)

Luxembourg's premier wildlife photography location — designated Ramsar Site Special Protected Area and Natural Reserve. The most species-rich wetland in Luxembourg with 253 documented bird species (76% of Luxembourg's entire bird species). Gravel pit lakes formed since the 1940s have created an extraordinary wetland mosaic. Multiple purpose-built observation hides and platforms along two circular trails (1hr and 2hr). Wildlife photographers find common tern little ringed plover and great crested grebe breeding at close range. Large sand martin colonies. Regular osprey and marsh harrier. Over 40 dragonfly species. The Biodiversum Nature Centre provides visitor facilities and information. Free public access. Near the villages of Remerschen and Wintrange at the French-German-Luxembourg tripoint.

Müllerthal – Echternach area – east Luxembourg (Luxembourg's 'Little Switzerland')

The Müllerthal region — Luxembourg's 'Little Switzerland' — is a dramatic landscape of sandstone rock formations lush forest and clear fast-flowing streams. The Ernz Noire stream corridor is the best location in Luxembourg for kingfisher photography — birds nest in the sandstone banks and are regularly seen along the entire valley. Dipper and grey wagtail on all fast-flowing streams. Red kite overhead throughout. Black woodpecker in the forest. European wildcat has been confirmed from camera traps in this region — one of Luxembourg's most elusive mammals. No commercial photography hides — self-directed from the extensive trail network (112km of waymarked paths). Excellent for landscape and wildlife photography combined with the extraordinary rock formations.

Upper Sure Nature Park – northern Luxembourg Ardennes (around Esch-sur-Sûre)

The Upper Sure Nature Park covers 22,000 hectares of the Luxembourg Ardennes — the wildest landscape in the Grand Duchy. The red deer rut in September–October is the most spectacular wildlife event in Luxembourg: stags roaring in the misty Ardennes valleys at dawn and dusk. The Nature Park runs guided wildlife discovery walks and dawn rut excursions. Black stork breeds in the Ardennes forests (2-3 pairs — one of Luxembourg's rarest birds). Red kite very common throughout the park. Hazel grouse present but extremely elusive. Eurasian otter recovering along the Sûre river. No specialist photography hides — self-directed wildlife observation from waymarked trails and forest roads. Dawn and dusk the best times. Full day exploration recommended.
